چکیده
We present and discuss a variance-reduced stochastic particle method for simulating the relaxation-time model of the Boltzmann transport equation. The present paper focuses on the dilute gas case, although the method is expected to directly extend to all fields (carriers) for which the relaxation-time approximation is reasonable. The variance reduction, achieved by simulating only the deviation from equilibrium, results in a significant computational efficiency advantage compared to traditional stochastic particle methods 1 in the limit of small deviation from equilibrium. More specifically, the proposed method can efficiently simulate arbitrarily small deviations from equilibrium at a computational cost that is independent of the deviation from equilibrium, which is in sharp contrast to traditional particle methods. The Boltzmann transport equation ∂f ∂t + c · ∂f ∂r + a · ∂f ∂c = [

We present and discuss an efficient, high-order numerical solution method for solving the Boltzmann equation for low-speed dilute gas flows. The method’s major ingredient is a new Monte Carlo technique for evaluating the weak form of the collision integral necessary for the discontinuous Galerkin formulation used here. The Monte Carlo technique extends the variance reduction ideas first present...

We present a Monte Carlo method for obtaining solutions of the Boltzmann equation to describe phonon transport in microand nanoscale devices. The proposed method can resolve arbitrarily small signals (e.g., temperature differences) at small constant cost and thus represents a considerable improvement compared to traditional Monte Carlo methods, whose cost increases quadratically with decreasing...

متن کاملDeterministic and stochastic solutions of the Boltzmann equation for charge transport in graphene on substrates
A physically accurate model for charge transport in graphene is given by a semiclassical Boltzmann equation whose scattering terms have been deeply analyzed in the last decade. Due to the computational difficulties, the most part of the available solutions have been obtained with direct Monte Carlo simulations. The aim of this work is to simulate a monolayer graphene on a substrate, as, for ins...
